Bungalow Forest House Design
2024 - Architectural design project
Project Specifications
This project focuses on designing a 21st century bungalow tailored to a private family seeking a balance between seclusion, functionality, and modern living. The home is designed as a forest sited bungalow under 2,000 square feet and between 15 and 24 feet in height, emphasizing efficient spatial planning, strong indoor outdoor connections, and durable, contemporary materials. Informed by research into 20th century bungalow precedents, the design reinterprets traditional layouts through modern principles of light, flexibility, and sustainability. Special consideration is given to integrated garage space designed to accommodate a motorcycle collection and a single vehicle, while maintaining a warm, livable atmosphere suited for everyday family life. The final proposal includes conceptual sketches, material studies, foundation and wall section detailing, and a clear comparison between historic bungalow typologies and this updated, site responsive design.
